On Sale: Ausverkauf nach Selbstdemontage (skug 2002)

Ein Kommentar zur Einstellung des Wiener Stadtfernsehens TIV.
(Erschienen in skug, 13.

TIV (Fernsehsender, 1996 – 2001)

Private Television Station in Vienna

TIV (also „T.I.V. – True Image Vision“ or „TIV – Der sexy Sender“) was a commercial TV-Station in Vienna, Austria (1996 – end of 2001).
It was among the first private TV stations in Austria following the 1995 liberalisation of cable broadcasting, which allowed non-public operators to transmit via cable networks alongside ORF.

R.A.M.S „Tod dem Fernsehen“ (CDROM / Video, 1993 – 94)

R.A.M.S. CDROM / Video dealing with the fundamentals of the American Public-Access-Movement compared to Austria.

This quite ancient work (1994) was based on a research travel to the U.S., which Margarete Jahrmann and me did in 1993 participating an art project by Museum In Progress (Reise zu den Quellen).

In 1994 Max Moswitzer joined the team, and together we finalized a „music-techno-clip style“ Video and a CDROM.

Some of the video parts took weeks to render on machines of this time – it was a hot summer, we cooled our feet and same our computers – so this project is an example how to use public available technology to the edge.

Sound and Smoke – 3 Steps to Heaven (Schall und Rauch, 1994)

Stadtwerkstatt Linz was invited by the city of Wiener Neustadt to design a flight show that addressed the complete destruction of the city by Allied air forces during World War II (1943) and told the story of aviation.

Wr. Neustadt was the center of a pioneering plane industry in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, had one of the first runways on the continent, and later, during the Nazi regime, was one of the main producers of combat aircraft (Messerschmitt, Heinkel) for the German Luftwaffe.

Fate: the most air-struck area in Austria.
Irony: production went underground and was saved—the actual airfield is still a huge bunker covering square miles.
Civilian victims in the unprotected city: 30,000, thousands of bombed-out refugees, one of these was my five-year-old father…

Based on an idea by Georg Ritter , Peter Donke & Peter Hauenschild („artists choreographing combat planes“ :-), the concept included a 3-level sound environment .

My responsibility was to layout a radio show, which was broadcasted to small receivers, handed out to audience at the entrance. Weiterlesen

K4 – Vienna City Radio (1993 -1994)

Concept K4 – Vienna City Radio (Stadtradio Wien) 1993 – 94

European national landscapes have a significant gap between public and private interests, mirroring the state of democratisation and democratic conciousness in societies. Leading countries as The Netherlands are in sharp contrast to the Austrian incredible media concentration combined with the lack of any access.
